Not up for Discussion è il primo singolo del nuovo EP di Niia uscito accompagnato dal relativo videoclip che vi presentiamo

E’ uscito il 30 Marzo 2021 Not up for Discussion il brano e video di Niia con la partecipazione di Laura Lee dei Khruangbin.

Questo primo singolo, estratto dal suo nuovo EP di prossima uscita, è per la cantautrice italo-americana quasi un promemoria che recita “ricordati di fare sempre ciò che desideri”.

A volte la vita può diventare così travolgente e schiacciante che finiamo per crearci delle false realtà o dei mantra che crediamo ci possano aiutare a farcela, a resistere.

«Se per esempio continuo a ripetere a me stessa che niente importa – spiega Niia – magari non continuerò a preoccuparmi troppo. Se niente ha importanza, non posso fallire. Ma in verità queste parole sono solo un modo per convincere me stessa quando ho troppa paura di tentare, di impegnarmi, di darmi più da fare, di provare il dolore e le gioie della vita».

Niia ammette anche di provare tanta confusione nell’affrontare varie situazioni della vita che la portano a fronteggiare tutte le proprie contraddizioni e ipocrisie. La domanda è: come andare avanti quando invece tutto ciò che vorresti fare è mollare?

Di Not up for Discussion è stato fatto anche un video – diretto dalla stessa Niia – che ci mostra la sua versione di “luogo sicuro”, sia nella vera realtà che nella falsa realtà della cantautrice.

“Nella vera realtà mi sento al sicuro insieme ai miei amici creativi che fanno le loro cose, circondata da piante e musica. Nella mia falsa realtà invece c’è molto più isolamento.”

Nella maggior parte del video infatti la telecamera segue Niia, in casa, con amici artisti che suonano e passano semplicemente il proprio tempo insieme. Si conclude poi con la protagonista in un’ambientazione surreale, in cima ad un’enorme colonna eretta in mezzo all’oceano, completamente sola ed isolata dal mondo.

A volte diventa impossibile individuare quale sia la realtà “giusta”. La canzone vuole essere anche una riflessione sul concetto di tempo: “il tempo è ciò che desideriamo sopra ogni cosa, eppure è anche ciò che usiamo peggio”.
